3D — questions we get asked
What is 3D modelling and what can you create?
3D modelling is the process of creating a digital three-dimensional representation of a product, object, character or entire environment. We create 3D models completely in-house and can model almost anything from a simple product to complex scenes and environments. Depending on the intended use, we can create high-poly or low-poly 3D models — from highly detailed assets for photorealistic CGI and animation to optimised models for websites, games, AR and interactive experiences. We also handle texturing, materials, shading and rendering, so the complete 3D asset can be created within one production workflow. Once a 3D model exists, it can be used in many different ways: for product visualisations, animations, CGI advertising, FOOH, DOOH, AR, web experiences or interactive applications.
What can you do with 3D animation?
3D animation allows us to visualise products, ideas and entire worlds without the physical limitations of a traditional camera. We can create everything from detailed product animations and cinematic product reveals to abstract motion design, dynamic simulations and complete 3D environments. Products can rotate, transform, explode into individual components, interact with other objects or be placed into environments that would be impossible to build or film in the real world. Because the entire scene exists digitally, we have precise control over the camera, lighting, materials, animation and environment. This makes 3D animation particularly powerful for advertising, product launches, social media, websites, trade shows and other brand content.
Can you create a 3D model from photos?
Yes. We can create 3D models from existing 3D data, technical drawings or product photography. Ideally, we work with existing 3D files such as .FBX or .OBJ, as these give us the most useful starting point for production. If no 3D data is available, we can also reconstruct a product from photographs taken from different angles or from drawings and references. This makes 3D production possible even when a product has never been digitally modelled before.
Can you animate a product before it exists?
Yes — 3D allows us to visualise and animate a product before a physical prototype or production sample exists. If you have CAD data, design drawings, photographs or even early product references, we can build a 3D version and create animations, product visualisations and marketing assets before the physical product is manufactured. This means marketing content can be developed in parallel with product development, rather than having to wait for a finished product or production sample.
What can you use a 3D model for?
A 3D model can become a reusable digital asset for many different types of content and platforms. The same model can be used for product animations, photorealistic CGI, social media content, FOOH campaigns, DOOH advertising, product visualisations, websites, AR experiences and interactive applications. Because the asset is digital, we can change the camera, lighting, materials, colours, environment and animation without having to photograph or rebuild the product each time. This makes 3D particularly powerful for brands that need to create different types of content or regularly introduce new product variants.
What do you need from us to start a 3D project?
The more product information we have, the faster and more accurately we can build the 3D asset. Our preferred starting point is an existing .FBX or .OBJ file, together with product photos, material and finish references and relevant brand guidelines. Technical drawings, dimensions or other product specifications can also be helpful. If you don't have any 3D data, that's not a problem. We can build the model from photographs, drawings and visual references. The more detailed the references, the more accurately we can recreate the product.
Can you create 3D assets for AR, web and games as well as video?
Yes. We can adapt the complexity and technical setup of a 3D model to its intended application. A photorealistic product animation may require a highly detailed high-poly model with complex materials and textures, while an AR experience, website or game may need a much lighter and optimised low-poly version. Because we create the assets ourselves, we can prepare the same product for different platforms and use cases, rather than starting the modelling process from scratch for every application.
